XL Video has supplied a projection system, cameras, Portable Production Unit, Catalyst and Hippotizer digital media servers and crew for the current Coldplay "Viva La Vida" world tour.
Working with Edinburgh-based Pufferfish, XL has also jointly developed six internally projected spheres - and steel cage housings - which are intended to be a major scenic feature of the show.
Five 2m diameter globes are onstage, three attached to the two rear trusses (which are horizontal ladder beams shaped like waves), and the other two downstage left and right at the sides of stage, flown on two more wave trusses.
All of these move in and out during the show on a fixed speed Kinesys automation system. The sixth globe – 3m in diameter - sits above the FOH mixer position.
Playback content for all the globes is supplied by three dual head output Hippotizers complete with a special plug-in to make the projections 360 degrees, bend the images and get them the right way up. At 1400x1050 pixels, the material is broadcast in High Definition.
There is also a 60ft wide screen onstage at the back that is fed by four Barco FLM HD18s rigged on a centre truss with a mix of Andy Bramley’s IMAG and pre-recorded footage stored on a Catalyst.
Two high level 21ft wide 16:9 ratio side screens were added to the ends of the stage left and right side trusses a couple of weeks into the European leg of the tour, along with another two Barco HD FLM projectors.

Small Footprint, Big Significance: Studio City Water Park |
|
Long known for its fancy casinos, Macau realized within the past decade that it must
diversify its tourism scene to attract new crowds. With the ambition of becoming the
leisure hub of China’s 72-million strong Greater Bay Area, the city began adding shows,
attractions, and family-friendly hotels. But the offering that truly stands out with fun
for everyone is Studio City Water Park – Macau’s first stand-alone water park, with all
the water slides and aquatic play structures supplied by WhiteWater. |

How surf simulators are transforming the experience economy |
|
The experience economy, driven by evolving consumer trends, is poised for continued growth
in the coming years. Millennials have been at the forefront of this shift, favouring
memorable experiences over material possessions. This preference has extended to other
generations as well, indicating a broader adoption of experience-focused spending habits
in the attractions sector. |
