Churchill Museum to open in Cabinet War Rooms
POSTED 28 Oct 2004 . BY
The £6m Churchill Museum is due for completion in December, and will be open to the public on 11 February 2005.

Part of the Cabinet War Rooms, the museum is set to be the first major museum which is solely dedicated to the life, achievements and legacy of Sir Winston Churchill.

With over 9,000sq ft of displays, the museum will allow visitors to view a wealth of artefacts that have been lent or given to the museum by the Churchill family and private individuals throughout the world.

As well as items such as Churchill’s signature red siren suit and spotted bow tie, the display will also feature personal documents such as school reports, love letters to and from his wife and a ransom note from his escape from a South African prisoner of war camp.

It was designed by Casson Mann and Partners, who also designed the British Galleries at the V&A.

The museum is part of a £14m extension to the Cabinet war Rooms and was founded entirely through donations.
