Sentosa Island in Singapore will introduce a number of new water-based attractions for 2009.
As part of its 10-year development plan, Sentosa’s beaches will be home to an Azzura Hydro Sports Centre next year, which will include a fleet of charter boats and sports activities as well as a outdoor spa and gym.
A simulated wave surfing machine will also be built on the island, which will allow guests to surf consistently perfect 10ft barrelling waves in front of spectators.
It will be built on a 7,653sq m (82,300sq ft) site at an estimated cost of S$15m (US$10.6m, £5.7m, 7.2m euro), which will include restaurants, music and entertainment venues as well as retail shops.
Sentosa’s director of property, planning and development, Goh Lye Whatt said: “The new wave of developments along the shore will push the whole beach culture here to a new level.
“Each attraction will have a different pulse – from driving the adrenalin of sporting enthusiasts, to shaping a modish leisure concept for beach lovers.”
