Forrec, one of the world’s leading theme park developers, has agreed a deal that will see the group design an entertainment complex in Noida, a suburb of Delhi.
Construction work on the site – which will include a theme park, water park and an entertainment village – has already begun and is expected to be completed by the end of 2005.
The project is a joint venture between Indian construction giant, Unitech and Delhi-based amusement park operator, Appu Ghar. The companies have so far invested 10 billion rupees (£12.2m) in the project.
Forrec designers plan to give the complex a gleaming image that will reflect the country’s fascination with high-tech said project leader, Steve Shah. “The Noida experience will be significantly richer and more varied than what is currently available in any of India’s numerous FEC’s and amusement parks,” he said.
It is the first venture in India for Forrec and comes as the demand for leisure entertainment facilities in India has surged in recent years.
Forrec has previously worked on five major theme parks – including Canada’s Wonderland and Universal Studios’ Islands of Adventure – 12 entertainment centres and six themed attractions. Details: www.forrec.com
