Six-year-old 'critical but stable' after being thrown from Tate Modern viewing platform
POSTED 05 Aug 2019 . BY Tom Anstey
A six-year-old boy is in a critical but stable condition following an incident where he was "thrown" from the 10th floor of London's Tate Modern art gallery.

A 17-year old boy has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after the six-year-old was found on a fifth-floor roof after falling from a viewing platform on Sunday (4 August).

In a statement, the Met Police said there was nothing to suggest the teenager was known to the child, who is "no longer in a life-threatening situation".

In its own statement, a Tate spokesperson said that it was "working closely with the police" on the incident, adding that the gallery would remain open, however, the viewing platform would remain shut throughout the day.

The Tate Modern ranked seventh on this year's TEA/AECOM Theme and Museum Index, welcoming 5.83 million visitors in 2018 – a 1.3 per cent decline. It's the second most visited attraction in Britain, narrowly beaten by the British Museum, which last year saw 5.87 million visitors come through its doors. The museum – a former power station – opened its new expansion with the viewing platform in 2016.
