Warrington community hub to link fitness, learning and healthcare
POSTED 22 Mar 2016 . BY Jak Phillips
The hub has been given an opening date of spring/summer 2017
Work has begun on an innovative new neighbourhood hub in Warrington, which will bring fitness, education and healthcare offerings all under one roof.

The £1.5m hub in the heart of the town’s Bewsey and Dallam suburbs was recently approved by councillors and has been given an opening date of spring/summer 2017. Technical support for the project is being provided by Mpulse and Walker Simpson Architects.

The Hub, which will be operated by LiveWire, will bring a range of much-needed services to the area including a fitness suite, ‘smart library’ (offering e-books and digital devices, as well as traditional books) IT suites and healthcare services. It will also provide the local community with open spaces including a playground and allotments.

Supplied by Technogym, the fitness suite will comprise 33-stations incorporating a mix of cardiovascular and strength kit, with an element of functional training equipment.

Phase one plans will see the gym, studio, smart library, IT suites and rooms for community activities developed. Subject to funding, plans for phase two include a learner hydrotherapy pool and an extra wing which will provide healthcare services.

“This is a much-needed facility that will provide a wealth of opportunities for residents in the area to improve their health and wellbeing,” said Emma Hutchinson, managing director of LiveWire and Culture Warrington.

“Furthermore, the response we’ve received from residents during our consultation exercises has been overwhelming and has showed a real need for this facility to be built.”

Elsewhere in Warrington, LiveWire is currently overseeing the redevelopment of Great Sankey Leisure Centre, with the £16m hub set to feature a wide range of leisure facilities. It is envisioned as providing residents with a one-stop-shop for all their leisure, health and wellbeing and cultural needs.
