Diggerland, the construction-themed adventure park with four locations in the UK, is expanding into the US market. H.E. Services, the park’s creators, have signed a partnership agreement with the owners of New Jersey-based waterpark Sahara Sam’s Oasis to open a US version of Diggerland.
Called Diggerland USA, the park will be locally owned and operated, and situated next to Sahara Sam’s existing site in West Berlin. The new 14-acre park is scheduled for summer 2014, and while no official opening date has been given beyond this, the Diggerland USA website has already begun taking birthday party and large group reservations from 14 June 2014.
Sahara Sam’s Water Park and Diggerland USA combined are expected to around one million visitors annually.
H.E. Services CEO Hugh Edeleanu said the move was part of an international expansion plan for the Diggerland concept. “Today, Diggerland has invaded America, tomorrow it will be the world,” he said. Edeleanu noted that the attraction is “unlike anything that currently exists” in the US.
Financial details of the partnership agreement were not disclosed.
At the existing Diggerland locations in Durham, Devon, Kent and Yorkshire in the UK, children and their families are able to drive, ride, and operate more than 100 diggers, dumpers and other mechanical attractions.
Masterhitch Europe, a sister company of H.E. Services, has manufactured more than 50 new construction attractions for the Diggerland USA park. The rides are currently being shipped from the UK to the US.
