London is set to get its own Hollywood-style walk of fame next month with the launch of the Avenue Of The Stars in Covent Garden on 18 September.
One hundred silver plaques will be embedded in the pavement around St Paul’s Cathedral in order to honour British and Commonwealth performers of the past century.
Billy Connolly, John Cleese, Nicole Kidman and Ant & Dec are some of the stars who will receive a plaque on the avenue.
The Avenue Of The Stars will be a permanent, free tourist attraction in Covent Garden, which welcomes 26 million visitors per year.
A spokesperson for Visit London said: “The avenue of fame is a fun way to celebrate British stars from old and new and a great new attraction for visitors to Covent Garden.”
Television network ITV is part-funding the avenue, which it hopes will act as a single landmark to encapsulate Britain’s achievements in the performing arts. The stars have been designed by blacksmith Fire and Iron.
