Mandarin Oriental has plans for a third London hotel, Mandarin Oriental Bankside, set to open in 2028
Reservations are now open for Mandarin Oriental’s second London hotel, Mandarin Oriental Mayfair, set to open on 3 June. The luxury establishment will feature 50 guestrooms, 77 private residences and a luxury underground spa retreat.

The new wellness facility – designed as a boutique counterpart to the flagship Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park spa – will cater to hotel guests, residents and the local community. The urban retreat will offer an indoor heated swimming pool, sauna, vitality pools, experience showers, steamrooms and a gym, overseen by assistant director of spa, Michelle Matthews.

Tokyo-based design studio Curiosity, responsible for the hotel's public spaces, has crafted the spa’s interiors with a vision to create "a hub of nature and art."

Curiosity says the design draws inspiration from the greenery of nearby Hanover Square, featuring a striking green Ming marble reception desk and an earthy palette of natural materials – including wood, stone and warm bronze – complemented by candle-like lighting.

Partnered with Swiss Perfection, Seed to Skin Tuscany and OTO, the wellness menu will include traditional therapist-led treatments enhanced with binaural acoustic and dynamic stimulation, designed to synchronise with brain waves and induce a meditative, relaxed state.

Noteworthy signature experiences will feature the four-handed Tranquillity of Mayfair massage therapy and the premium Elegance of Mayfair facial. Guests will also be able to enjoy NAD+ vitamin-boosting IV infusions.

Additionally, the hotel has partnered with Bodyspace to offer hyper-personalised lifestyle performance services.

Focused on enhancing longevity and quality of life, Bodyspace integrates a global network of experts in fitness, nutrition, health technologies, science and medi-wellness to deliver transformative programmes. These will include personal training, a digitally connected Pilates Reformer, a multifunctional fitness centre, swimming and fitness assessments, nutritional consultations, physiotherapy and NormaTec compression therapy.

Expanding presence
Designed by architecture firm Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners, Mandarin Oriental Mayfair is owned and developed by Clivedale London, a premier property developer based in Mayfair.

Mandarin Oriental landed in London in 1996 with the opening of Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park. The property underwent a £100 million (US$127.5 million, €117.6 million) renovation back in 2018, which included an extensive overhaul of its 14-treatment-room spa.

In addition to the Mayfair outpost, the operator has announced plans for a third London location set to open in 2028 on the South Bank, featuring a luxury hotel, spa and branded residences.

Mandarin Oriental is among the long list of top-tier hotel brands actively investing in London's hospitality scene, alongside renowned landmarks like The Ritz and BT Tower undergoing redevelopment. Amid this bustling landscape, how will these establishments set themselves apart in the competitive UK capital? Delve into the latest edition of Spa Business for insights on their strategies and innovations.
