Pokémon exhibit coming to Tokyo science centre
POSTED 27 May 2015 . BY Tom Anstey
Pokemon Lab makes its debut on 8 July
Kids will be getting a unique lesson in science at Tokyo’s Miraikan Science Museum this summer, when a Pokémon-themed lab exhibit opens the institute.

The Pokémon Lab exhibit, to be split across three rooms, will recreate the opening scenes of the popular games in the franchise, where players choose their starter Pokémon. Through the exhibit, children will be tasked with imagining what it would be like to study Pokémon as a professor.

In the first of the three rooms, visitors observe Pokéballs delivered to the lab to try to assess which Pokémon is inside. In the second room, each Pokémon’s type and characteristics will be explained. In the third room, children will be taught how what they have learned can be applied to real-world science. Throughout the three rooms will be areas that look at the history of the franchise and how the technology behind it has also evolved.

Pokémon’s most well-known character – Pikachu – will act as the exhibit’s mascot, with plans for promotions and merchandise based around ‘Researcher Pikachu’.

The exhibition opens on 8 July, running through till 12 October and has been sponsored by Japan’s Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports.
