Next-gen snow and ice amusement park on track for 2017 opening in Oman
POSTED 27 Nov 2016 . BY Alice Davis
The snow park is under construction as part of the upcoming Palm Mall Muscat in Muscat, Oman
Unlimited Snow has started work on a snow park at the Palm Mall in Muscat, Oman, creating what it calls “a true Alpine winter land and a world-first new-generation real snow and ice amusement park”.

The Dutch company, part of Unlimited Leisure Holding, said that as well as immersive Alpine theming, the 5,400sq m (58,000sq ft) park will have real-snow snowfall and an “automated meltwater recycling system providing a fresh layer of snow daily”. There will be 20 different attractions, including an ice-skating rink, ice climbing, ropes courses and children’s snow play areas, and food and beverage options.

The mall is part of a US$300m-plus (€283m, £241m) mixed-use project by Omani developers Al Jarwani Group, Al Jarwani Group, which will also feature hotels, an FEC and a 7,500sq m (81,000sq ft) aquarium. The two-level snow park, which is not a skiing or snowboarding facility, is slated to open on the third floor of the new mall in Q3 2017.

“Unlimited Snow is a one-stop shop for the development of indoor snow and ice amusement parks,” said CEO Kees Albers, who is providing a turnkey solution for Snow Park Palm Mall. “This includes feasibility, architectural, engineering, theming, rides and attractions, project management and operational management including franchise opportunities.”

After looking for a way to provide guests at their snow attractions with a way of recording their memories, Unlimited Leisure Holding launched TapeMyDay, a high-tech video system for guests to record their entire visit. Highlights from the footage are used to create a personalised souvenir, and stock film and branding can be added. TapeMyDay will also be installed at the Snow Park Palm Mall Muscat, with more than 40 cameras set up to serve the attraction.
