The Yorkshire Wheel, situated at the National Railway Museum (NRM) in York, UK,closed on 2 November after carrying visitors for the last two-and-a-half-years.
Opened in April 2006, the 60m (197ft) attraction will now be dismantled by its owner, World Tourist Attractions, over the next three weeks and it is expected to be then moved abroad to a new site.
The 42-capsule wheel, which offered views across the city of York, could accommodate eight people per capsule, and offered disabled access, air conditioning and heating, as well as a VIP gondola.
Helen Ashby, NRM's head of knowledge and collections, said: "The Yorkshire Wheel has been a very successful venture for both the NRM and World Tourist Attractions."
