Wrexham County Borough Museum and Archives has been officially reopened, following the completion of an extensive £2m refurbishment programme.

Work has been carried out to modernise the attraction and has included the installation of a number of new displays, which aim to cater for visitors of all ages.

Among the new experiences is Smelly Old Wrexham, which enables guests to explore the Victorian streets of the town to include the aroma of the Wrexham Brewery.

The museum also boasts a gallery to showcase the best of national collections in North East Wales, including objects from Amgueddfa Cymru - National Museum Wales.

Funding for the renovation came from Wrexham County Borough Council and the Welsh Assembly Government, as well as £950,000 Heritage Lottery Fund support.

Bob Dutton, the council's deputy leader, said: "The museum will offer an exciting and interactive learning experience for young people and the older generation alike."

Welsh heritage minister Alun Ffred Jones added: "I hope local people and visitors alike will take time to visit the many new attractions here."
