Work begins on Trump’s £1bn Scottish resort
POSTED 28 Oct 2009 . BY Luke Tuchscherer
Work on Donald Trump’s £1bn Scottish golf resort is to begin today (28 October).

The Aberdeenshire course, designed by Gareth Hoskins Architects, is yet to receive full planning permission for the entire development, but early work – such as stabilisation of the sand dunes and the laying of marram grass turves – is to begin already.

Jack Perry, chief executive of Scottish Enterprise, said: "We value the commitment that the Trump organisation is demonstrating by commencing work on the site at Menie. This course is critical to our ambition to help Scotland realise more value from its tourism assets."

The 500-acre course – which Trump claims will be the "greatest golf course in history" – will boast two 18-hole golf courses designed by golf architect Martin Hawtree, which will be separated by a clubhouse open to guests and visitors, a caddyshack, a short-game practice area and a driving range.

Additional recreational activities will include an equestrian centre, an archery range and a tennis facility, while the accommodation offering will comprise a 450-bedroom hotel with a conference centre and a spa overlooking the sea, adjacent to 950 holiday apartments and golf villas.

The scheme was granted outline planning approval by the Scottish Government in December last year. Master planning is to be completed and submitted to Aberdeenshire County Council in early 2010.
