North Tyneside Council (NTC) has opened up the Spanish City Dome in Whitley Bay to the public for the first time in 10 years in a bid to help mark the landmark's centenary.
The reopening of the building coincided with the wider Heritage Open Days programme and follows work carried out by Kier North Tyneside to ensure the structure is structurally sound and watertight.
Two exhibitions - produced by Black Dog Design and Rebecca Davis - enabled visitors to explore the Dome's history and restoration, while the building's roof terrace was also accessible.
Meanwhile, Shopjacket provided temporary design treatments on the windows and hoardings that were designed to give the impression of a dining room underneath chandeliers.
Kier North Tyneside operations director John Norton said: "In line with Listed Building Planning Consent, we have made every effort to preserve the original features of the building whilst at the same time ensuring it is structurally sound, wind and watertight and compliant with strict, modern day rules and regulations."
The Dome sits at the heart of the Spanish City Island, which has been identified by NTC for a mixed-use redevelopment that could feature a boutique hotel and leisure and entertainment activities.
