Work has started on erecting the frame of the new Pavilion building on The Grand Pier in Weston-super-Mare.
More than 100 tonnes of steel per week will be used to form the structure of the new building, which has been designed by Bristol-based architect, Angus Meek.
In total more than 1,100 tonnes of steel is being supplied by local firm Hayley Engineering for the project.
Pier owner Kerry Michael said, "It has taken months of hard work by all the design team - and more than £9m worth of investment - to reach this stage.
"We are all looking forward to when it is watertight so we can start installing all the fabulous rides and attractions we have gathered together from all around the World. The re-opening next July can't come soon enough".
The Grade II-listed Weston Grand Pier was completely destroyed by a fire in July 2008.
The pier, which was opened in 1904, was acquired by brother and sister Michelle and Kerry Michael in January 2008.
