Visitor attraction operator Merlin Entertainments has reported an increase in visitor numbers and a rise in revenues for the financial year of 2010.
Reporting its full-year results to 25 December 2010, the group announced a 6.5 per cent increase in total visitors to its attractions, resulting in a 4.1 per cent increase in revenue.
Chief executive Nick Varney said the results were down to both growth in the group's existing portfolio as well as an aggressive expansion strategy.
"During 2010 we significantly extended our geographic footprint," he said.
"In the past year we have continued to invest to grow and develop our business and we have accelerated our growth plans. By the end of 2012 we will be operating more than 80 attractions as we develop further across Europe, North America and the Asia Pacific region."
Varney added that the economic uncertainties were still affecting the sector, but that the company had weathered it well.
"While the outlook for the consumer economy remains uncertain, we believe Merlin will make further good progress and continue to grow.
Under our new ownership structure we will continue to invest in our clear and proven strategy of growing our strong brands in a portfolio of attractions balanced by geography, product and demographics."
