US troupe complete acrobatic performance on London Eye
POSTED 17 Jul 2012 . BY Tom Walker

A troupe of acrobats, which have been choreographed by US performer and dancer Elizabeth Streb, have completed a daredevil performance at the London Eye visitor attraction.

The production - Human Eye - took place on 15 July and featured 32 performers who positioned themselves on every other spoke of the UK capital's giant wheel structure.

As the wheel turned, each of the performers then rose up and slid down with each revolution, balancing and spinning themselves with the movement.

The London Eye was programmed to spin at a faster rate than for normal operations, with each full rotation completed in just 20 minutes.

Human Eye, which was one of seven specially-commissioned performances by the acrobats across the city during a single day, was completed within an hour and three rotations of the wheel.

The performances by the Streb-led group were commissioned by the Mayor of London and London 2012 Festival, and were staged as part of LIFT 2012.

'Waterfall' on the Millennium bridge and 'Sky Walk' on the top centre of City Hall were among the other performances at London landmarks.

At 132m (433ft), the Merlin Entertainments-owned and operated London Eye is the tallest cantilevered observation wheel in the world.
