Swing through the trees and Go Ape!
POSTED 04 Jun 2007 . BY
The award winning Go Ape High Wire Forest Adventure opened its family activity centre in Forestry Commission Scotland’s Queen Elizabeth Forest Park, near Aberfoyle, Stirlingshire on 26 May.

With more than 600,000 adventure seekers now climbing rope ladders up into the trees, Go Ape is proud to announce the opening of its twelfth course, the very first of its kind in Scotland.

The course lets members of the public climb rope ladders up into the treetops and experience the thrills of trekking from tree to tree, some 40 feet above the forest floor!

The Go Ape course, located at David Marshall Lodge Visitor Centre, in the heart of the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, is split into six challenging zones. Both children and adults will love the excitement of taking to the trees and weaving their way through a series of rope ladders, bridges, Tarzan swings, trapezes, stirrup crossings and zip wires.

Aberfoyle will also boast the longest zip wire in Great Britain, measuring 426m.

Set against this stunning backdrop, a Go Ape visit will provide visitors with approximately three hours of adrenalin-fuelled fun and adventure.

Tristram Mayhew, owner and Chief Gorilla, said: “Creating adventures and encouraging others to live life more adventurously is the ethos behind Go Ape.

“It’s very much about introducing people, young and old, to the forest and being able to explore the forest from a different perspective.

“I am delighted to be bringing Go Ape to Scotland. Not only have we built an amazing course, but I feel I am returning home in a way, having been to university here. I also met my primate Rebecca with whom I founded the company.”

Queen Elizabeth Forest Park is a major draw for tourists with over a million visits being made each year. The new Go Ape course has a potential catchment of over two and a half million guests within one hour's drive.

Stuart Chalmers, for Forestry Commission Scotland in Aberfoyle, added: “It's great news that Go Ape have chosen Queen Elizabeth Forest Park for its first Scottish course. Not only will thrill seekers have a fantastic adventure but the extra visitors to the area will bring a welcome boost to the local economy.

“Our forests are the perfect place for people to get fit and to blow away the stresses of everyday life. Set in stunning surroundings, the course offers an alternative way to enjoy the great outdoors.”
