First images of Universal's Super Nintendo World released
POSTED 12 Dec 2016 . BY Tom Anstey
The Mario-themed world will cost ¥50bn to develop Credit: Universal Studios Japan
Universal Studios Japan (USJ) has released the first images of its world-first Nintendo attraction, coming to the park in 2020.

Now officially named Super Nintendo World, the conceptual art shows an entirely Mario-themed land with Bowser’s Castle, Princess Peach’s castle, a mushroom house and a multi-levelled Mario-style level.

"Super Nintendo World will be comprised of expansive and environments filled with unprecedented state-of-the-art rides, interactive areas, shops and restaurants, all featuring Nintendo’s most popular characters and games,” said a statement from Universal, which also confirmed last month that its parks in Orlando and Hollywood would also feature a Nintendo presence.

USJ has said its Nintendo addition will be developed at a cost of ¥50bn (US$451m, €424m, £363m).

According to the operator, the attraction in Osaka will exceed the size of its existing Harry Potter element. The expansion will take four years to develop, with the opening timed to coincide with the 2020 Olympics and Paralympic Games, which are to be hosted in Tokyo.
