The British Museum has been granted a three month extension to secure the purchase of the Dog of Alcibades by the Arts Minister Baroness Blackstone.
The dog was provisionally purchased by the Museum of Fine Arts in Houston, but the export ban on the Classical sculpture has been extended while the museum awaits the outcome of a £600,000 application to the Heritage Lottery and National Art Collections Funds due this week.
