Saint Louis Zoo in MIssouri, US, has received a US$2.5m (£1.4m, 1.8m euro) donation from the Wachovia Foundation towards the redevelopment of the attraction.
The gift will be used to fund a revamp which will include a new bridge being built between the south parking and the zoo's entrance.
There will also be a number of new life-size bronze sculptures, depicting animals at the zoo – such as a lioness with cubs, a zebra and baboons.
“This major renovation, to be called the Wachovia South Arrival Experience, has been
our goal for a number of years,” said Jeffrey Bonner, president and CEO of the Saint
Louis Zoo.
“It is paramount that we ensure our visitors’ access and safety, and at the same time
set the stage for a unique wildlife experience.
"With the generous help of The Wachovia
Foundation, and in conjunction with Wachovia Securities, we will bring a new awareness of
animal conservation to our visitors. We think this will become one of the most admired public
spaces at the Zoo.”
