Six Senses to put heat on Alpine ski resort market
POSTED 27 Oct 2017 . BY Tom Walker
The owners of Kitzbüheler Alps Projekt, Franz Wieser (left) and Dr. Walther Staininger (right) signing the management agreement with Bernhard Bohnenberger, president of Six Senses
Resort and hotel operator Six Senses is looking to establish itself as a leader in the luxury ski resort market.

The Thailand-based group, which opened its first Alpine property in 2015 – the Six Senses Residences Courchevel in the French Alps – is now set to operate two further large ski and spa resorts in the Austrian and Swiss Alps.

The 80-bedroom Six Senses Kitzbühel Alps, located in the Salzburg region, is due to open in 2020 and is being developed by Kitzbüheler Alps Projekt GmbH – a family-owned property firm.

The property will be designed by International Architecture Workshop (IAW) and interior design consultants Martin Brudnizki Design Studio, while project management and the landscape design will be carried out by AECOM.

As well as offering skiing, the resort will have a focus on wellness, housing a large Six Senses Spa, which will offer a range of signature massages, restorative therapies, facials, body treatments and personal journeys.

All treatments at the spa will be based on Six Senses’ Integrated Wellness programme – an initiative drawing from the preventative principles of Eastern medicine and the result-oriented Western influences. In-house experts will measure and analyse key physiological biomarkers in order to provide guests with lifestyle and nutritional advice and design a personalised programme of spa treatments, fitness and wellness activities.

The Kitzbühel resort will coincide with the opening of another Six Senses resort in Switzerland, also due to launch in 2020. Located in the popular skiing region of Valais, the 47–bedroom Six Senses Crans-Montana will be the group’s first in the country and operate under a long-term management agreement with 1875 Finance.

The resort will house a 22,000sq ft (2,000sq m) spa specialising in alpine treatments and will also include a dedicated area for children and offer treatments for teenagers.
