Silver Dollar City rebrands and expands
POSTED 27 Jan 2003 . BY
The parent company of Silver Dollar City is changing its name to reflect its growing portfolio.

Silver Dollar City, Incorporated - the parent company of Silver Dollar City park, Dollywood theme park and several other US tourist-related properties -- is to change its name to Herschend Family Entertainment Corporation. 'This change is simply part of the evolution of our business,' said president and CEO, Mel Bilbo.

Peter Herschend, vice chair of the board explained how the company had expanded: 'From partnering with Dolly Parton on multiple properties to working with the State of Georgia to operate one of America's most revered natural resources, Stone Mountain Park, we continue to grow in many different ways. At all of our properties, now and in the future, we will present family-orientated entertainment, but with varying themes that are not directly related to the original theme of our first park, Silver Dollar City.'

Currently, Herschend Family Entertainment is building a new US$40m theme park in Branson called Celebration City. It is designed to be 'The Night Place for Families' with a multiple themes highlighting some of the most colourful and entertaining eras of 20th century America. Outstanding features will include the Ozark Wildcat, a new eight-storey classic wooden coaster, one of nearly 20 rides and attractions at the park. There will also be a spectacular nightly outdoor laser show that will take guests on a time-travelling tour. The new park will open from 3pm-11pm.
