Sheffield Ski Village to open Adventure Mountain
POSTED 02 Feb 2004 . BY
Sheffield Ski Village is preparing to launch its latest attraction, The Adventure Mountain, during Easter weekend.

The new facility is themed on the world’s biggest mountain ranges – the Himalayas and the Alps – and will aim to both educate and entertain children aged between two and 12. The launch will be closely watched by the new mascot Marmot – better known as the European equivalent of the groundhog.

Adventure Mountain will include four play zones with a two-acre woodland and entry to the site will be via two tunnel slides.

Visitors will be able to enjoy zip wires, tunnels, rope bridges, slides, swings, secret dens and a climbing wall. There will also be a mini log cabin village.

Children will be given the opportunity to learn while they play, as the world’s most famous mountains will be present everywhere – in the form of replicas up to 25ft in height.

Ski Village’s David Harrison is proud of the fact that the Adventure Mountain concept has attracted interest from the Local Education Agency (LEA). He said: “We are working closely with the LEA, and hope to organise school trips to the site. The idea is that children can obtain education, exercise and entertainment all at the same time.”

Sheffield Ski Village is the one of the UK's largest all season ski resorts. Current facilities include over a mile of slopes and a freestyle arena with its air jump, cornice, half pipe and grind rail.

The majority of the nursery slopes are covered in Snowflex virtual snow, and all pistes are lubricated with an automated mist system.

There is a themed alpine lodge which can accommodate private functions catering for up to 300 people. Details: www.sheffieldskivillage.co.uk
