The Royal Observatory in Greenwich, London is to re-introduce admission charges for part of its site.
From 8 March, visitors will have to pay for access to the Meridian Line courtyard and the courtyard buildings, although tickets will effectively be an annual pass allowing multiple entries.
The Astronomy Centre will remain free of charge.
The new charge will not only assist in maintaining the fabric of the site - where visitor numbers have risen to 1.58 million since free entry was introduced in 2001 - but also in funding ongoing developments to all its galleries and facilities.
