Lothian and Borders Police have launched a fraud investigation into
National Museums of Scotland after more than £80,000 of the institution's money has gone missing, the organisation has confirmed.
NMS became aware of the fraud in July 2012 and launched an investigation with the help of their internal auditors KPMG.
One staff member has been dismissed and another has resigned as a result of the internal investigation and the matter is now in the hands of police.
NMS sites include the National Museum of Scotland and National War Museum.
