As part of its plans to expand globally, Outrigger's Mauritius Resort and Spa, estimated to have cost US$10m (€7.2m, £5.9m) has officially launched.

The renovated 181-bedroom beachfront resort is located in Bel Ombre on the southwest shore of Mauritius and opened in the middle of April.

“With the opening of our Mauritius property we hope to benefit the greater Hawaii visitor industry by lending visibility to the unique brand that is Hawaii,” president and CEO, David Carey told local media.

“In the next five years, Outrigger will continue to grow our global profile and expand operations beyond Hawaii’s shores to new international markets,” Carey said.

Chairman of the board of Outrigger Enterprises Group, Dr Charles R Kelley said: “The third generation has expanded the business. Today, everywhere we go we supply genuine, authentic hospitality with a local culture experience.”

Situated 1,200 miles (1,931km) off the southeast coast of Africa, the 1,800sq m (19,375sq ft) Navasana Spa features seven regular treatment rooms and six rooms for water treatments.

Facilities also include a hydro massaging corridor, sauna, hammam, spa pool and rest rooms with relaxing armchairs, plus a rooftop Solarium with a secluded pool.

Navasana treatments include some ancestral and traditional “Around the world Massages” with signature treatments specially concocted to enhance their wellbeing and relax.

The spa uses Terraké products – a French brand developed and distributed for exclusive use in 130 five-star resort spas throughout the world, mainly in China – and includes relaxing rituals, world massages, body shape rituals and facial treatments. Terraké offers body and face products with natural ingredients, refined textures and scents.

The resort also offers an array of sports activities such as kite-surfing, plus the 18-hole championship golf course, Golf Du Chateau, is minutes away.

Outrigger is a Hawaii-based family-run hospitality company and this resort is its 46th property open or under development in a total of eight countries.

The hotel and spa also plans to host the XTERRA Mauritius off-road triathlon inaugural race in late May.
