The National Park Visitor centre in Newport, Wales, has officially reopened.

Owned and managed by the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority, the facility was extended and refurbished over the winter.

Jane Davidson, the Welsh Assembly's minister for environmental, sustainability and housing, who opened the centre, said: "I'm very pleased to see that the building is completely sympathetic in its surroundings. The existing National Park Visitor Centre was very small but the work done to extend it into the adjacent cottage is absolutely lovely."

The revamped centre features an interactive display pertaining to a bilingual oral history project called Talking Newport/Tafod Tydrath, which gives visitors a chance to hear local people sharing their memories of Newport's past and hopes for the future.

The project is part-funded by PLANED and the Sustainable Development Fund and will be conserved by the Pembrokeshire County Council Museum Service.

As well as Tafod Tydrath, the visitor centre's displays include touch screens, a 'feely box', film and audio activities and a shop.
