Cabana Bay Beach Resort will incorporate two distinct experiences - 900 family suites able to sleep six people and including kitchen areas and 900 standard guestrooms.
The hotel development will offer moderate- and value-priced accommodation when complete in 2014, with Loews Hotels and Resorts to be responsible for its operation.
Facilities will include two themed pool areas, with Cabana Bay Beach Resort to be built on a 37-acre (15-hectare) site adjacent to Universal's Islands of Adventure.
The design will evoke memories of US driving vacations and the sweeping motor courts just off the highway where families would once relax following a long day's drive.
Loews Hotels and Resorts president and CEO Paul Whetsell said: "The Cabana Bay Beach Resort furthers our goal of operating special and distinct properties in important markets.
Universal Parks and Resorts chair and CEO Tom Williams added; "It will give guests an affordable, incredibly themed on-site hotel experience unlike anything else at our resort."
