New technologies launch at Cleveland Museum of Art, US
POSTED 17 Jan 2013 . BY Jessica Tasman-Jones
The interactive Collection Wall features digital displays of the musuem's objects
The Cleveland Museum of Art in Ohio, US, is launching two technological innovations to enhance visitors' interactivity and interpretation of artworks on 21 January.

Gallery One will include interactive stations and touch screens in three areas of the gallery, and the ArtLens iPad app will use image recognition technology that will let visitors access informative multimedia content about the collections.

A 40ft interactive Collection Wall is being touted as Gallery One's most innovative feature, including rotating displays of the museum's permanent collection organised by theme.

It also acts as an orientation device allowing visitors to download existing tours or curate their own tours to take out into the galleries on iPads.

Studio Play will cater to the museum's younger audience and includes a sorting and matching game, shadow puppet theatre, mobile and sculpture making station and touch screen which allows lines drawn by children to match works of art in the collection.

Across six of the museum's 14 galleries interactive screens at "lens" stations will provide visitors with contextual information about artworks.

The ArtLens iPad app will use image recognition software to let visitors scan the collection and access up to nine hours of additional multimedia content when they leave the museum.

The Cleveland Museum of Art contains around 45,000 objects spanning 6,000 years.
