Tony Blair has announced that James Purnell has been appointed as Minister for Tourism and Media in the new government.
Purnell said: ““Tourism is one of Britain’s biggest employers and most important industries. After a rough few years, the tourism and hospitality industry is back on the up.
I’m looking forward to doing everything I can to help get visitors to Britain and to keep them coming back.”
Independent tourism advisor, Ken Robinson, said: “We should welcome the appointment of Labour's rising star James Purnell, who well understands tourism from his time as special advisor to the Prime Minister on DCMS issues.”
“We need a fresh mind to recognise and energise the government to deliver their essential supporting role, so we can achieve the potential.”
