The RNLI lifeboat station in Exmouth, Devon, could be transformed into a maritime museum, it has been reported.
The North Devon Gazette said that after the new boathouse opens on 6 June, the existing site will potentially be left empty.
The newspaper reported that town councillor Steve Gazzard said that once the existing boathouse - owned by East Devon District Council and rented out to RNLI - was vacated, he would like to see it transformed into a museum.
"There are lots of wonderful things we could put in it," he was quoted as saying. "Exmouth has a long and proud maritime tradition and a strong relationship with the sea. It would be a focal point for visitors.
"And the building would be perfect; it is well placed on the seafront. And, because of its history, it would be perfect for a maritime museum or exhibition."
However, the idea is only in an embryonic stage at present, and would be subject to further discussion and fundraising.
