Birmingham City Council has announced its support for a bid proposed by the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) to run Britain’s first regional supercasino in the City of Birmingham, in partnership with Las Vegas-based casino operator MGM Mirage.
As the City of Birmingham owns the NEC Group, the proposed regional entertainment complex – named the MGM Grand – will directly benefit the city by providing funds for further regeneration projects in deprived areas.
The scheme would comprise 300,000sq ft (28,000sq m) of leisure space featuring a casino, ’high energy’ entertainment facilities, a 300-bedroom, four-star hotel and restaurants.
The MGM Grand would be located next to the existing NEC and Birmingham Airport. If approved, it is estimated that the project could be worth more than £600m to the region in the first 10 years alone. Details:
