Merlin to open Madame Tussauds at Prater Park
POSTED 27 Jan 2010 . BY Tom Walker
Merlin Entertainments will open its 11th Madame Tussauds wax attraction, and the fourth in Europe, at the Prater Park in Vienna, Austria.

Scheduled to open early in 2011, the £10m attraction will be designed to reflect the culture of Vienna.

Madame Tussauds Vienna will house around 70 wax figures, including famous Austrians and Viennese people such as Sigmund Freud, Albert Einstein, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Joseph Haydn and Johann Strauss.

Merlin is currently working with both Prater Services, the local authority responsible for Prater Park, and other city tourist and leisure organisations to promote the opening, and to ensure that the attraction plays an integral role in encouraging visitors to Vienna.

Managing director of Merlin's Midway brands, Glenn Earlam, said: "Madame Tussauds Vienna is a very exciting development for Merlin. It will be our fourth site in Europe after London, Berlin and Amsterdam, and we could not have wished for a better location in this beautiful city.

"We will be working closely with both Prater Services, and our new landlords, Calafati GmbH, to create a stunning attraction which we believe will be a 'must-do' place for everyone visiting Vienna."

Prater Park is one of the most popular attractions in Austria. The large public park hosted the World Exhibition in 1873 and has since grown to house a number of attractions. It currently receives around 3m visitors a year.
