Madame Tussauds to open in Berlin
POSTED 03 Jun 2008 . BY Andrea Jezovit
Merlin Entertainment Group will open its eighth Madame Tussauds attraction in Berlin, Germany on 9 July.

Designed by London-based studio am, the 10.5m euro, 2,500sq m (26,910sq ft) museum will be located on Unter den Linden Boulevard, and will employ nine full-time staff.

The attraction will have nine zones and feature wax works of leading German public figures, including tennis star Boris Becker, pop star Herbert Groenemeyer, and German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Some figures will appear in historical settings, including representations of a war bunker and the Berlin Wall.

Figures of international celebrities will also be on display, and visitors will have the opportunity to look behind the scenes at how the figures are constructed.

The interior of the attraction will be designed and created by P&P Projects.

It will be the second Merlin project in Berlin for P&P, after the company worked on the city's Sealife Centre.

Merlin Entertainment said in a statement that the company expects Madame Tussauds Berlin to be popular with both domestic and overseas visitors.

“In Germany, the Madame Tussauds brand name enjoys huge awareness and Germans are currently the biggest single group of overseas visitors to its London attraction,” said a spokesperson for Merlin. “The experience is expected to appeal to a wide variety of people from culture vultures seeking a ‘potted’ experience of Berlin, to celebrity followers, family fun seekers, and schoolchildren.”
