Liverpool FC reveals plans for Anfield stadium expansion
POSTED 27 Aug 2019 . BY Tom Walker
The move is an escalation of Liverpool's existing plans for Anfield
Liverpool Football Club will undertake an "ambitious expansion" of its iconic Anfield stadium.

The English Premier League club has revealed plans to redevelop the Anfield Road stand and to increase the venue's capacity from its current 54,000 to around 60,000 fans.

The move is an escalation of Liverpool's existing plans for the Anfield Road stand. The club had already secured planning for a redevelopment which would have added 4,000 seats to the stand.

In a statement, Liverpool FC chief operating officer Andy Hughes said those plans would now be discarded to allow a "more ambitious" development to take place.

"The progress that has been made during ongoing feasibility studies has resulted in us being in a position to allow the existing outline planning permission to lapse," Hughes said.

"This will allow work to continue on alternative options, with a view to submitting a new planning application for a larger scheme in due course.

"We are committed to working with local residents, planning officials and others as we now focus on the detail behind any proposed redevelopment for Anfield Road.
“Throughout this process, we have been clear that our objective is to find the best possible solution for Anfield Road and that remains the case."

Liverpool has invested heavily in the Anfield stadium in recent years.

A redevelopment of the main stand, which was completed in 2016, added more than 9,000 seats at a cost of around £110m.
