Yorkshire County Cricket Club will receive a £4m (US$5.3m, €4.8m) grant to redevelop Headingley Stadium after its funding request was approved by the council.
Leeds City Council’s executive board gave the project the green light today (27 July) after an application was made earlier this month.
The money will go towards the £28.5m (US$37.5m, €34m) needed to
revamp the ground in time for the 2019 Cricket World Cup – part of which is expected to take place at Headingley.
Headingley’s North-South Stand will be demolished and replaced with a their-tier stand with a capacity of 5,060 spectators as a result of the grant. Its hospitality facilities will also be upgraded.
