Knott's Berry farm introducing free-roam virtual reality experience in April
POSTED 08 Mar 2017 . BY Tom Anstey

Knott’s Berry farm will be the first major theme park in the world to introduce free roaming, multi-player virtual reality, announcing plans for ‘VR Showdown in Ghost Town’, which is coming to the attraction’s Boardwalk Arcade.

Debuting in April and available exclusively to Knott’s Berry, Washington-based VRstudios have created the experience, which invites guests to embark on a time travel adventure, transporting them to a futuristic version of the park’s western town of Calico.

During the experience, players will be met by robotic creations, embarking on a mission with other groups of players to defend the town from their enemies.

Players will compete against each other, all equipped with guns and VR headsets, which can be used within a virtual space. At the end of the experience, they can compare scores on a leaderboard.

“We are always looking for new and exciting ways to entertain our guests,” said Christian Dieckmann, Cedar Fair’s vice president of strategic growth. “By using a free-roaming system, we can take full advantage of the capabilities of VR and let our guests be the stars of the show. A majority of people have not yet experienced VR, and we anticipate there will be a lot of interest from guests to have their first taste at our park.”
