Kim Jong-un: North Korea needs more 4D cinemas
POSTED 02 Jun 2014 . BY Tom Anstey
Kim Jong-un wants more 4D cinemas in North Korea after visiting one in Pyongyang
North Korea’s leader Kim Jong-un has suggested installing further 4D cinemas outside of Pyongyang, the country’s capital.

The 4D technology, used to immerse North Korean citizens into the outside world at the Runga People’s Pleasure Ground in Pyongyang, was created in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).

North Korean state media have released an in-depth promotional video highlighting visitor experiences at the recently opened Runga 4D Simulation Cinema.

The video – which shows visitors being vigorously thrown around as they watch computer generated shark attacks, military battles and dinosaur scenes – was released by foreign-facing broadcaster Voice of Korea.

“The glasses, 3D scenes, music effects, and rhythmic facilities enable the viewer to feel a vivid reality,” Ri Un Hyang, a Runga People’s Pleasure Ground caretaker says in the promotional video.

According to the Korea Central News Agency (KCNA), Kim Jong-un queried the quality, sound effects and 4D elements of the films, also suggesting that additional theatres be built in each of North Korea’s eight provincial capitals.

Following the Supreme Leader’s visit, director of the 4D Cinema Kim Sung-rim said that the facility received “a thousand visitors in a day”. With each showing able to hold eight or nine people, the one-screen theatre would need to be showing roughly 110 movies daily for this to be accurate.

Along with the 4D cinema, the Runga People’s Pleasure Ground has a water park, amusement facilities, a dolphinarium and a mini-golf course. The facility first opened in 2012 and is one of six known pleasure parks in or near Pyongyang.
