In such a magnificent setting, transitions are paramount. Dramatic ceiling alignments, open arches, and the use of parallel exquisite materials within and outside the buildings all contribute to a defining sense of unity amid variety.

The Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok at Chao Phraya River is due to open early this year, with a design by Denniston founder Jean-Michel Gathy that is inspired by Thai culture and the hotel's riverfront location.

Occupying a 200m (660ft) stretch along the Chao Phraya River, around which the Thai capital was first settled and grew, the hotel's design makes abundant and synergistic use of water.

Flowing streams, waterfalls and pools echo the movement of the river while contributing to a soothing and serene ambience along with other natural elements like greenery and trees.

Elegant Thai touches, meanwhile, are seen in the use of architectural elements like arches, intricate detailing, fabrics like silk and gentle tones.

Jean-Michel Gathy said: "In such a magnificent setting, transitions are paramount. Dramatic ceiling alignments, open arches, and the use of parallel exquisite materials within and outside the buildings all contribute to a defining sense of unity amid variety. The overall effect is supremely engaging yet also restful."

The 299 guest rooms are designed to be warm and sophisticated with contemporary interiors, with the suites among them offering garden terraces.

The two-story Presidential Suite offers three bedrooms, uninterrupted river views and a rooftop terrace with a private pool.

Among the hotel's amenities are a riverfront Grand Ballroom with an outdoor terrace and entertainment offerings, restaurants and bars also along the waterfront.
