IP owner partners Paragon Creative to create Teletubbies attractions and more
POSTED 23 Sep 2016 . BY Alice Davis
Teletubbies won multiple BAFTA awards and was nominated for two Daytime Emmys throughout its run
Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa Laa and Po are set to become theme park sensations as intellectual property owner DHX Brands revealed it's actively seeking operators and investors for Teletubbies themed attractions, with Paragon Creative already working on design concepts.

Kids' television programmes Twirlywoos and In The Night Garden are also being conceptualised, the first as a sensory play zone and garden, and the latter as a the show's red boat transformed into a play zone. This could be similar to the In The Night Garden Magical Boat Ride that opened at CBeebies Land in Alton Towers, UK, in 2014.

"For the Teletubbies, we're looking at doing a theme park land similar to Peppa Pig World at Paultons Park and Thomas Land at Drayton Manor," Danielle Tanton, live events and attractions manager at DHX Brands, told Attractions MAnagement. "We feel like that there are lot of rides that we can translate from the Teletubbies series. In addition, we're also looking at family entertainment concepts that can be scaled down for an indoor park."

The three popular children's IPs will all be scalable as parks, and could be tailored to suit FECs or be outdoor areas featuring customised splash zones. DHX Brands is eyeing the UK and China for its first Teletubbies zones, with the newly invigorated brand more popular than ever before. However, the concepts can be potentially rolled out anywhere.

"Our partnership with Paragon Creatjve is for Europe and the Middle East but we'll be looking for partners worldwide to take these attractions," said Tanton. "We met Paragon at DEAL this year and were impressed with their work. It's a design and build partnership, so they will go out on our behalf and speak to operators and investors and if they come back with a project that works financially, then they will go and build the attraction themselves."

DHX Brands is a recent spin off from parent company DHX Media, one of the largest children's content development and distribution companies in the world. The company purchased the Teletubbies from Ragdoll Productions and brought the show up to date, relaunching a reinvigorated version last year.

Next year marks the 10th anniversary of In The Night Garden and the 20th anniversary of the Teletubbies.

"We'd like to sign something for next year if it's possible," Tanton said.
