Fifa reportedly holds secret talks with Sepp Blatter over future

Fifa has reportedly held talks with president Sepp Blatter over his future at the helm of football’s world governing body, according to the BBC.

The discussions reportedly involve representatives from a number of football confederations and are understood to have been ongoing since the English FA’s 150th anniversary celebrations in October 2013.

Since then, the Fifa president has announced his intentions to stand in May’s presidential election, seeking his fifth term in office, but there is concern among Fifa executives over its future direction and leadership.

According to the BBC, the recent crisis within Fifa in relation to alleged corruption relating to the World Cup bidding process, which saw lead investigator Michael Garcia tender his resignation last week, could have far-reaching effects.

Garcia quit the investigation after citing alack of independence in the judicial process within Fifa, with sources reportedly saying that potential challengers are now weighing up candidacy options for the Fifa presidency.

FIFA is to release more of the report into allegations of World Cup bidding corruption, after its executives voted unanimously to publish a "legally appropriate version."
