Efforts to re-introduce standing areas at UK football grounds have moved forward with the launch of a new Football Supporters' Federation (FSF) campaign.
Football supporters are being invited to sign the FSF's petition as part of the Safe Standing Campaign, which aims to allow clubs the choice as to whether to bring back terracing.
According to the FSF, fans in the Premier League and npower Championship should have the choice whether to sit or stand and said that such a move could be done in a safe manner.
However, the Premier League has said that it will oppose the move on the grounds that all-seater venues are safer and more welcoming to women and children.
Premier League chief spokesperson Dan Johnson said: "We will not be encouraging the government to change the law."
A Department for Culture, Media and Sport spokesperson added: "The government does not believe that a compelling case has been made to change the policy."
Bath MP Don Foster is to bring his Safe Standing Bill back to Parliament for its second reading on 17 June.
