Eurovision exhibition coming to Stockholm's ABBA museum ahead of this year's show

The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and the ABBA Museum in Stockholm are teaming up for a new exhibition dedicated to The Eurovision Song Contest.

Open to the public on 8 May, one week before the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest in the Swedish capital, GOOD EVENING EUROPE! will be an interactive exhibition celebrating the history of the world’s longest running annual television competition dating back to its first appearance in 1956.

As part of the exhibition, hundreds of hours of footage from every existing Contest has been digitised and will be displayed for visitors to access. Singing will also be included, with a mock Eurovision stage the location for visitors to cover their favourite songs from the show’s history. A number of costumes will also be on display from select artists who have taken part in Eurovision over the past six decades.

Finally, the exhibit will feature a special wall dedicated to the six Eurovision winners produced by Sweden – ABBA, Herreys, Carola, Charlotte Perrelli, Loreen and Måns Zelmerlöw. The wall will tell the stories of their victories and an interactive quiz will test visitors on their knowledge of Eurovision.

The exhibition will be curated by ABBA Museum director, Ingmarie Halling, with the design by Bengt Fröderberg and Anna Söderberg.

“The Eurovision Song Contest occupies a special place in my heart,” said ABBA’s Björn Ulvaeus. “It is a pleasure to be able to display the long and in many ways astonishing history of the largest running TV show in the world, where music is at the centre. And I couldn’t think of any better place to do it than at ABBA The Museum in Stockholm.”

The permanent exhibition will feature an empty space for this year’s Eurovision winner. After the Grand Final on 14 May, the winning artist will visit the museum and place one item from their performance in the exhibition.
