Arup and Effekt release final images of surreal forest tower in Denmark

Danish architects Effekt and global engineering consultancy Arup Associates have completed a tornado-shaped observation tower at the Camp Adventure Climbing Park in Denmark.

The surrealistic structure, which rises 45 metres above the Gisselfeld Klosters Skove – a preserved forest outside Copenhagen – features a winding ramp designed to accommodate visitors of all physical abilities.

The tower also is linked to a 900-metre boardwalk that snakes through the nature park.

According to Arup, the building owes "its characteristic hyperboloid shape to the straight structural steel elements, which were rotated to create an efficient yet visually striking structure".

The company also said the site was made fully accessible with "footfall modelling software".

Sean Lineham, a structural engineer at Arup, said: "The entire design process serves as a novel example of digital best practice, and demonstrates how the digital environment can promote engineer-architect collaboration and holistic thinking in the design of ambitious architecture."

Other attractions at Camp Adventure include a number of elevated obstacle courses with zip lines and trapezes.
