Digital legacy service Spogo to launch in July
POSTED 28 May 2012 . BY Tom Walker

A new online resource offering the public an easy way to find sporting opportunities will launch in July as part of digital legacy plans for the 2012 Olympic Games.

Called Spogo, the service will be delivered in partnership between SportEngland and the Fitness Industry Association (FIA) and will be fully operational in time for the London Games.

According to David Stalker, chief executive of FIA, Spogo will make searching and finding physical activities as simple as other consumer friendly online services.

"Over time Spogo will offer digital access and booking processes to every sports club, leisure centre, personal trainer, playing field and community centre," Stalker said in a letter sent to all FIA members.

"One of our aims is to energise the 80 per cent of the population who simply don't do enough sport and fitness. Spogo will allow us to reach out to those people and communicate directly to them. We aim to attract non-members to your services and help you to engage with them."

FIA has worked with a number of technology companies on the project - such as Gladstone, XN, Legend, Clarity, SDA and EZ Facility.
