The Design Museum In London, UK, is to move from its current location near Tower Bridge in London as part of a £50m expansion and relocation project.
A spokesperson for the museum said discussions regarding the new site had commenced, but declined to comment on the possible location of the new museum.
Museum officials are hoping that the move and expansion will be completed by 2012.
The Design Museum has occupied its current site at Shad Thames since 1989.
Luqman Arnold, chair of the museum’s trustees, said: “We want to build on the 18-year heritage of the Design Museum and to provide the UK with the world’s leading museum of design.”
In September 2004, entrepreneur James Dyson resigned as chair of the museum over a disagreement over the museum’s direction.
