Dallas Holocaust Museum planning major expansion
POSTED 16 Jan 2015 . BY Tom Anstey
The expansion will be designed by Dallas-based Omniplan Credit: Omniplan
The Dallas Holocaust Museum is looking to expand its premises by building a new permanent museum opposite its current home is the city’s West End.

The new building – to be built on land purchased in 2014 – will house space for new exhibits and a centre for education and tolerance, adding to the 6,000sq ft (557sq m) area the museum currently occupies.

“We’re limited by space,” said Mary Pat Higgins, president and CEO of the museum speaking to The Dallas Morning News. “There’s very little room to grow, change out or update exhibits, and the number of annual visitors keeps growing. We need more space to serve those students and the North Texas community,”

For 2014, around 65,000 people visited the museum, with students making up about half that number. At present there is no price tag for the development as "it’s just too early to commit to an ultimate cost or size,” according to Higgins, who also revealed that following an architectural contest, Dallas-based Ominplan has been selected to design the expansion.
