Cornwall stadium group 'remains positive' despite council funding snub
POSTED 30 May 2012 . BY Pete Hayman
A group behind plans to develop a new stadium development near Truro, Cornwall, has said it "remains positive", despite the local authority's decision not to provide funding support.

Earlier this year, it was revealed that a private sector partnership would be taking the project forward at the Langarth Farm site near Threemilestone, which has secured planning approval.

However, Cornwall Council confirmed earlier this month that Cornwall Community Stadium Ltd (CCSL)had been unable to raise the necessary funds and had requested public support.

Members of the full council voted 55-to-46 against taking a lead in the stadium project at a meeting on 15 May, while also rejecting further scrutiny of the proposals.

Cornwall Council leader Alec Robertson has now written to CCSL to confirm that cabinet members would not be considering a request for funding worth £10m towards the plans.

Robertson said: "Although the council is not minded to take this matter forward at this time, I hope that this does not finally close the door on this project."

A spokesperson for the Stadium for Cornwall Group said: "The Stadium for Cornwall Group remain very positive about the Duchy achieving the modern stadium it so needs."
